5-9 December 2011
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne

BioInfoSummer 2011 brought together students (undergraduate, masters and PhD) and early career researchers from mathematical and biological sciences and introduced participants to state-of-the-art bioinformatics research.  Through participation of Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC), some workshop sessions were also offered to secondary school teachers.

The 2011 BioInfoSummer program featured:

  • Introductory lectures on current technology, challenges, biology and bioinformatics
  • Keynote speakers, from institutions local, interstate and overseas, highlighting current research
  • Hands-on practicals using bioinformatics software for each daily theme of the program

A series of introductory lectures that provided basic understanding of biology, bioinformatics and cutting-edge technology were given on Monday.

Starting from Tuesday’s program, each day was comprised of: one opening lecture, followed by two additional lectures that elaborated on the topic; a two-hour workshop in the afternoon that was highlighted by a keynote lecture at the end of the day that covered real-world, state-of-the-art research in the theme.

Content and delivery of BioInfoSummer 2011 received positive comments through interactions with participants during the course of the program.
